CIFST and IFST (UK) Co-operating Societies Agreement

The Canadian Institute of Food Science & Technology (CIFST) and the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) of the United Kingdom are the respective national professional bodies.  Both recognise their international responsibilities in food science and technology and the important role of the International Union of Food Science & Technology (IUFoST).

Without in any way detracting from the role of IUFoST, or from the direct relationships that each of our Institutes has with other national food science and technology bodies, the two Institutes have agreed that there would be substantial merit in direct collaboration between them in matters of common interest and concern, on an equal and reciprocal basis.

Accordingly, they jointly announce that they formally recognise each other as Co-operating Societies and each appoints a person to act as Liaison with the other.

The CIFST Liaison to IFST will be Carol Ann Burrell, Executive Director

The IFST Liaison to CIFST will be Helen Gay Wild, Chief Executive.

The initial areas of collaboration will be food safety, public information on food matters, Websites and publications.

AIR CANADA AND THE CACC SIGN INNOVATIVE NEW PARTNERSHIP
Discounted business travel between Australia and Canada

The Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce (CACC) has signed an innovative new partnership with Air Canada, the only airline offering a non-stop service between Australia and Canada. Effectively immediately, travellers with a business program in either country can contact the CACC for significant discounts on Air Canada's lowest advertised fares.

Businesses with an interest in exploring opportunities in the other country can contact the CACC for assistance in effectively engaging with the business community, or simply to access significantly discounted travel between both markets.

As part of the program the CACC has also partnered with the ACCOR group to provide discounted accommodation rates to business travellers between both counties, and Europcar to provide a preferential car rental discount.

The partnership has been developed to encourage the establishment of face to face business relations between Canadian and Australian businesses, and support the chamber's mission to contribute to increasing the level of trade and investment between Australia and Canada.

"Our goal is to bring the business communities of both countries closer," said Doug Carmichael, President of the CACC. "Australians and Canadians share a similar culture and outlook, and our economies complement each other well. This partnership is one way to help businesses explore the numerous untapped opportunities available across the Pacific" Mr Carmichael said.

Trade between Australia and Canada is at an all time high, with investment also increasing. Canadian investment in Australia totals nearly $10 billion, and is the largest of any Asian economy, while Australian firms in Canada are increasingly discovering unique benefits, including access to the entire North American market from a similarly structured economy.

"Fantastic commercial opportunities exist between Australia and Canada, and Air Canada is delighted to be part of this innovative new partnership with the CACC to help make business travel between the two countries easier," said Jeannie Foster, General Manager of Air Canada (Australia/New Zealand).

Guests staying at ACCOR hotels receive discounted accommodation and also obtain a 15% discount on car rental with Europcar. ACCOR brands include the Sofitel, Pullman, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure and Ibis, with locations across Australia, Canada and the Asia-Pacific.
