Belinda Elysée-Collen, P.Eng, M.Sc., CFS, Vice President Food Canada – Dempsey Corp.
Belinda has a B.A.Sc. Chem Eng from the University of Waterloo, and a M.Sc. Food Science from the University of Guelph. She has been selling food ingredients in Canada for 25 years and is currently Vice President Food Canada division at Dempsey Corporation, a specialty food ingredients distributor in Toronto. She is a long time supporter and volunteer with CIFST, and a past-President of CIFST National.

Supply Chain Issues from an R&D Perspective
The food industry supply chain has one again been disrupted by new and continuing global issues in 2022. One thing is clear, food ingredient suppliers and their customers need to work more closely together than ever before to navigate the latest crisis. How are suppliers responding to meet customer demand? How is R&D affected and how can food manufacturers plan for the future? When will the instability and uncertainty in supply and prices end? Do not miss this session where a panel of experts from food ingredient suppliers and manufacturers will tackle these questions and give an update on the state of the overall supply chain for food ingredients.
Rob Kowal is president of Kriscor & Associates in Mississauga, Ontario.
Since receiving his Food & Pharmaceutical Science diploma from Durham College in Oshawa Ontario in 1981, he has enjoyed a rewarding career in the Canadian Food & Beverage industry with considerable leadership experience and expertise in R&D, Sales and Sales management, Operations, and General Management.
Before starting Kriscor & Associates in 2006, Rob worked for many well-known food and food ingredient companies including, Hostess Foods (now Frito-Lay), Firmenich, Kerry Ingredients, The NutraSweet Company, Quadra Chemicals and WILD Flavors.
Rob has an extensive network, supported by his long-term association with CIFST Ontario Section, where he served as chair from 2009 to 2013, and President of CIFST National from 2019 to 2021. He also served as Chair of the Mississauga Board of Trade in 2005.
Rob is a writer and co-author a book titled (Deep Health: Using Artificial Intelligence to Live Longer & Healthier), and is an avid cyclist and currently resides in Mississauga, with his wife Teresa and two daughters, Kristin and Courtney.

What is driving consumer food choice?
More and more we hear about how health is affected by food choice and other lifestyles.
Consumers are finding it more and more difficult to select healthy, affordable foods and are often confused by conflicting dietary advice they hear about from friends, family, journalists, authors, doctors, government and various media outlets.
Rob will sort through some of this conflicting information. What is really driving food choice? What are the long term trends and market drivers that will shape the future of what we eat?
Tim Gilks is the President of Ojai Commodity Group in Burlington, Ontario.
After attending University of New Brunswick, he has enjoyed a challenging career in the Canadian Foodservice Industry, always in procurement functions.
Before starting Ojai Group, Tim worked for many well-known foodservice companies in procurement leadership positions for 28+ years.
Many years at each, Grandma Lee’s Bakery and Eating Places as Purchasing Manager Food and Equipment, Country Style Donuts / Buns Master Bakeries / Maple Leaf Foods as Director of Purchasing, MR. Sub as Director of Purchasing and finally at Tim Hortons as Vice President of Purchasing and Commodities.
Tim has significant knowledge and background in procurement functions as well as agricultural commodities, like Corn, Wheat, Sugar, Soybeans, Coffee, and Oils, as well as Packaging.
Ojai Group’s goal is to assist food manufacturers and food service chains manage their input costs strategically on the futures markets and to stabilize profitability.
